Clark & Shauna 2010

Clark and Shauna in 2010. Sledding down their back hill and surviving.  Snowshoeing to Elephant Rock.  Building a snowman named Stan.  Hiking to Twin Lakes near Brighton, Island Lake in the Uinitas, and their favorite meadow up Bear Trap Fork in Big Cottonwood Canyon.  Hosting some strange parties: the infamous Friday the 13th Party, the Slip n’ Slide Extravaganza/BBQ, and Thanksgiving.  Growing a garden that looks like The Little Shop of Horrors.  Taking several trips: Island Park, where they canoed the wild rapids of the upper Henry Fork River; Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, where Shauna dragged Clark to every Anne of Green Gables site she could find; and the Cedar City Shakespeare Festival and Tuacahn with Marie and Tasha.  Creating some unusual chicken photos for their annual Christmas Card.  Shauna participating in Iron Chef Bountiful (a very prestigious cooking competition), and regularly experimenting on Clark with new recipes (he hasn’t died yet and never complains about being her guinea pig).

Three French Hens

For the past three years, we have been doing the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' as a theme for our Christmas cards for friends and relatives; so, of course, this year was the 'three french hens'.  We found and purchased these gals online and they are proudly displayed in this year's card.

Cedar City Vacation 2010

We have gone to Cedar City every year since we have been married and have to say it is a firmly established tradition.  Tasha and Marie came with us this year and in between seeing the Adventures of Pericles in Cedar City and Tarzan at Tuacahn,  we visited both Snow Canyon and Cedar Breaks.  Here Clark and Shauna are posing in front of Snow Canyon.  The weather was warm and beautiful.

We hiked to the top of Petrified Dunes... Always a favorite.

Here Tasha is climbing Jenny's Canyon..... no she doesn't make it to the top.  :)

Clark and his Mom at Cedar Breaks.  It is a little bit cooler here.

Shauna enjoying the view.  Yes that white stuff is snow..... where is Shauna's coat?

Nova Scotia Vacation 2010

After Prince Edward Island, we headed for Nova Scotia where we had fun exploring the South Coast  and the Bay of Fundy.  Here, Shauna is enjoying the sun on the pier in Lunenburg.

We always knew Clark wanted to be a pirate, but now we have proof.  Argggg!

View along the South Coast of Nova Scotia.

Peggy's Cove is very unique little town built on a narrow rock peninsula.  Large waves come crashing in and create large sprays against the rocks.  It was almost like watching fireworks!

Along the Bay of Fundy at Cape d'Or, we found this beautiful view with a lighthouse!

As we hiked down to the lighthouse we discovered these great big cliffs.  Sometimes the hike really pays off.

Lighthouses and Beaches PEI

We loved visiting the lighthouses on PEI.  This is a picture of the Point Prim Lighthouse.  We often collect unique Christmas tree ornaments while on vacation. So we were very excited to find a miniature Point Prim Lighthouse ornament to add to our growing collection.

Charlottetown has a beautiful waterfront park.  We could see at least three lighthouses from this one location.  We enjoyed eating our picnic lunch here while we soaked up some sun.  (Actually seeing the sun on this trip was a little rare, quite often it was overcast and sometimes rainy.)

Here, Clark is standing next to the West Point lighthouse.  This is one of two lighthouses we were able to go inside and climb clear to the top.  You wouldn't believe how many stairs there are in there!

We collected lots of seashells on our trip.  What is a trip to the beach without a souvenir or two...... or twenty.
Shauna walking through the sand dunes while humming the Anne of Green Gables theme song.

Sand Dunes....

Red Cliffs....

Sunny Beach....
What more could we ask for?

Prince Edward Island Vacation 2010

Shauna has wanted to go to Prince Edward Island ever since she watched Anne of Green Gables as a little girl.  So when we went, she had to visit Green Gables, the Haunted Wood and Lovers' Lane.  (Clark is an extremely good sport.)

This is a "picture perfect" little park along the coast of PEI.  Everywhere we went, we wanted to take a picture.

Here Shauna is standing in front of some farmland and a small community.  PEI is still quite rural.  Ahhhh, the simple life!

Clark and Shauna on the beach in front of the Confederation Bridge on PEI.  This bridge runs between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island and is about 8 miles in length.  It is the longest bridge in the world crossing ice-covered water.  Shauna was happy there wasn't any ice while we were there!

It's a Piggy!

One of Shauna's favorite children's books, "Happy Birthday Little Pookie," by Sandra Boynton, shows a picture of a Piggy Pancake.  Shauna was excited to recreate this piggy perfect pancake for one of our Saturday morning breakfasts!  "It's a PIGGY!"

Brighton Hike 2010

If you've looked through our blog before, you know that a favorite tradition of Clark's family (parents and siblings and their children) is an annual hike around Silver Lake near Brighton.  This is Shauna and a niece, Samantha, playing around before the hike.

The nieces and nephews always have to feed the ducks.  No waterfowl will starve today!

On the boardwalk.

Yet another tradition of the Brighton hike is scaling the big rock near the girls camp.  Here's Clark and nieces and nephew starting out at the bottom.

There are some tricky parts on the way up, so Samantha gets a little help (it's actually not as steep as it looks in the photo).

Here's the whole gang (except for Clark, who's taking the picture).  Some family members weren't able to make it this year, but we still had a great time.

Shauna and Clark enjoying another beautiful day in the mountains.
